Most fans of the D will likely not be disappointed with this film, the boys’ long awaited ample cloak adventure. The film offers grand of what we’ve approach to question from JB and KG (that’s Jack Murky and Kyle Gass, for the uninitiated) from their short-lived HBO series of sketches. However, those fans looking for something more, some mammoth cinematic achievement, or the view that somehow, in a movie, the D will be even bigger and better - saving their best material for this outing, may be left wanting.

I’ll admit, despite my near-constant laughter throughout the film, I felt a itsy-bitsy like the guys squandered an opportunity to really do something immense and branch out from the restrictions of sketch comedy. Perhaps they didn’t want to deviate too far from their recent, obscene budget/low brow glory. Going too high understanding could also alienate fans, and the D has a tried and good cult of them. But as it is, this film, about how the boys meet, originate a pact to become the greatest band in the world, and residence to seize the Prefer of Destiny, a guitar rob forged from Satan’s tooth and handed down from rock god to rock god, falls victim to the trap many movies based on short comedy sketches tend to. You impartial inquire weather there is enough material to withhold a feature length film and warrant paying those increasingly high sign prices.

For those hoping for something titanic, the reply will be no. However, if you’re like me and appreciate these kind of cruddy, improper, rough around the edges, vanity projects from artists that have amassed some sort of cult following and seem to be speaking unprejudiced to that cult, then you, while not being utterly blown away, will have a grand time with “Choose of Destiny.”

The goofy humor, acoustic guitar heavy metal jams, spoiled mouthed musings and titanic physical shenanigans of the D of faded are all here. The songs in the film are not as agreeable as almost anything from the D’s first album, as anyone who has this soundtrack knows, but the performances of the modern tracks in the film are as self-depreciatingly comic as the performances of the current stuff, one may not view, or care about, the rather sluggish writing of many of the tracks. And even though I said the film feels like somewhat of a sketch stretched too far (more inspired scenes may have helped), there are several standout sequences. The opening and closing scenes are classics and alone worth the notice of admission. A terrific and terrifically laughable “Blues Brothers” inspired car lumber, KG and JB’s first encounter, Tim Robbins’ cameo, JB’s rock god dream sequence and their first performance on originate mic night are all grand moments as well. Quiet it feels like there is filler, or some scenes that should have been funnier, throughout the film. And after the terrific battle with Satan at the raze of the film, we are sort of left waiting for an epilogue that never comes.

With a puny more tightening and a shrimp more care, it is easy to notice how this film could have been noteworthy more. As it is though, it is unexcited funnier - and more of a wild and crazy, anything-goes advance to filmmaking - than objective about every other comedy in theatres at the moment.

I contemplate, with expectations lowered, this movie will play better on DVD and with divulge viewings (perhaps the presence of a few friends and a dinky liquid libation may be the key to unlocking where the film’s correct humor lies) than anything of this type, where a great fan foul has waited far too long for a film they have been clamoring for, can hope to live up to in theatres. Based on this, I am giving the film four stars (4 out of Amazon’s 5, but more accurately I would give this film 3 stars out of the standard 4) as I am positive, being a D fan, that I was expecting more than I maybe should have and will be ecstatic with this sitting on my shelf as a companion to their “Masterworks” DVD down the road.

And noteworthy of it really is damn droll. No point in taking that away from the film honest because I plan they were going to expand on the Tenacious D notion. So it doesn’t do anything that original or truly special. It succeeds as a comedy and that’s what is most primary.

(And if you’re about fifteen years conventional - or 15 collected at heart - you can elegant considerable disregard all of my reservations because you will no doubt assume this is one of the best movies EVER!)

It’s tempting to impartial say this film is a stout seize for Jack Shaded and Tenacious D fans and leave it at that. But “Tenacious D in The Grasp of Destiny” is so mighty more. It’s an hour and a half of creative special effects, contemptible fantasy and dream sequences, hard-rocking music, pop culture references, low-brow humor, guest appearances, and coarse close-ups combined to grunt the origin of the band Tenacious D.

Part music video, share comedy, the anecdote begins with a young JB (Jack Shaded) belting out the profane lyrics to “Kickapoo,” while his ultra-conservative family tries to eat dinner. After a lecture, a beating, and the removal of his prized rock star posters, ten-year-old JB leaves for Hollywood to pursue his dream of becoming a rock singer. After a circuitous route, he finally arrives years later at his destination and meets poser KG (Kyle Gass) playing his guitar for spare change on Venice Beach.

The two hook up to work on The Kyle Gass Project, what KG promises will be the best rock band on earth. In their quest for fame — which includes a stout gain at a talent exhibit in a dive bar — they choose to lift a magical green guitar purchase housed in the Rock and Roll History Museum. Along the plan, they prefer lots of mind-altering drugs, examine television, indulge their fantasies, and solicit the serve of star-struck Lee (JR Reed), a clingy pizza delivery man with a serviceable car, but no discernible backbone, and must fight off a mysterious stranger (Tim Robbins) who also has plans for The Occupy of Destiny.

In addition to Robbins, other necessary stars design brief appearances including Ben Stiller (who also served as an executive producer), singer Meat Loaf, and Fred Armisen and Amy Poehler, both of “Saturday Night Live.” The film was written by Shaded, Gass, and Liam Lynch, who also directed. Raunchy, irreverent, and relentlessly laughable, “Tenacious D in The Retract of Destiny” is destined to delight Jack Dismal fans in the theater and attract fresh devotees on DVD.

The Subspecies series is one of the best vampire saga’s out there. Though they are obscene budget, they consume their budget well and they have fabulous gothic atmospheres. What makes me excited is that only Subspecies 4 is on DVD! You cannot have one Subspecies movie without the others; they are all connected like one grand long movie. The VHS versions of Subspecies 1-3 are even out-of-print, so there is no plan to score the entire series anymore! This is bad for fans honest getting into the series and as a result they are forced to lift bootlegged copies. What makes me wonder is if they will ever release the others again because Plump Moon pictures has honest folded and has gone out of business. This is a scary opinion indeed. Lets fair hope that someday, the first three gems will be re-released.

Over six years ago I happened upon an unknown vampire series called Subspecies. I was petrified at how considerable I enjoyed them and have missed em ever since. Now, here is a device to revisit Romania and our well-liked vampires portrayed by Denice Duff and Anders Hove.

This DVD is equipped with the Chunky Moon Pictures VideoZone (which accompanies almost all their flicks) . It contains gradual the scenes footage and interviews.

There are two commentary tracks provided by Director Ted Nicolau and Denice Duff. Mr. Nicolau’s commentary is exquisite. He provides us with all the exiguous technical problems and enhancements that had to go into this movie. Denice Duff’s commentary is hilarious. Her stories of what happened with the actors leisurely the scenes and how they felt was outstanding.

Overall a classic. If you like Tubby Moon Pictures, a must have. If you’ve followed the Subspecies movies, ditto. If you are a fan of Vampire movies double ditto.

The Mercedes of Bags
This bag is the equivalent of a German car or Swiss watch: no prize winner in the price/value category (it’s expensive!) but oh so beautifully engineered and built. There’s not a single frill or useless feature. The gear is very well protected but very easy to get at on the fly without having to struggle with straps or buckles. And the thing looks cool–like something a grizzled photojournalist would carry. The tough construction makes it look like it will last through multiple wars (or at least lots of family vacations). My only concern is how long the velcro closures will last, but the flaps themselves should stay down even with less than perfect velcro, and can always be snapped.

After buying based on a web page describption, I was a bit surprised at the smallness of the internal space. It’s absolutely perfect for my Nikon D70, a couple of lenses, and the odds and ends that go with it, but if I throw in my backup film Nikon body things get very, very crowded. No way of adding my video camera without taking out the padded insert.

Overall, I love it and believe I made the best possible choice from the plethora of bags available.

Everything but pro…
I purchased this bag and received it about two weeks ago. Since then, I am desperately trying to fit just a simple walk around kit in this bag - much frustration and no success. I can’t think of any reason why Domke calls this bag a “pro system bag”.
The bag has one main compartment which takes easy a Nikon D300 or similar size camera with battery grip - without lens! The two extremely small lens compartment will then hold a regular small diameter lens each, like the Nikon 18-55 VR, or the 55-200 VR. These are no pro lenses Mister Domke!
Okay, possibly Domke ment a “medium size camera” as a pro equipment - I believe that in the advertisement is a Hasselblad on the picture… Now, I have a Mamiya RZ67 - the plain body would fit in the main department, the film back in the outside pocket and the lens I would have to carry in my hands, because not even one single lens would fit!
Pro? Nonsense!
If you own a regular full size SLR, without grip, and use regular standard (amateur) lenses, you probably will be happy with this bag. If you own a larger camera, or SLR with grip, and pro lenses like the 24-70 f/2.8, you will be out of luck with this bag. By the way, the outside pockets (3) are large and take all accessories you like to carry, but they are not patted (protected).
So in summary: Yes, it is a nice bag. It looks good, and is of superior workmenship. Nevertheless, it is not water proof or dust proof, because there is no zipper, and all the lid’s are not closing the compartments fully - it actually can rain freely into the bag, especially in the outside pockets.
Okay, I still like this good weather bag, and I use it now the following way:
I took the grip of my D300 and carry now a spare battery in the outside pocket.
I have the 24-70mm f/2.8 mounted on the camera and the camera sticks with lens downwards in the main compartment.
In the two lens compartments, I carry a Tokina 12-24 f/4 lens, and a small Nikon 55-200 f/4-5.6G VR lens. This gives me for my purposes a small walk around kit and it fits snugg and thight in this bag.
The outside compartment are very sufficient for all other gear, flash, charger etc etc…
Okay, the bag might deserve 4 or 5 stars for the quality - I gave only two because I like to express my anger about people who try to sell equipment, making it better or bigger than it actually is!
It is a good bag, and Domke has all sizes of good bags - why blowing sand in the buyers eyes and making customers buy wrong sizes??? I would not mind paying another 50 or 100 dollars to get the right bag. I work with it every day.
My final advise is:
Don’t just buy a camera bag over the internet. Go to a camera store and try one - find the right one for you, and then either buy it right there and then, or go back to your computer and order it from Amazon after you know for sure which one makes you happy. I am a pro for 30+ years and know the hassle of buying camera bags, I just thought that Domke would be straight with their description - so I figure that the “White House Photographers” must have very small cameras…

I found the analysis of the Christian hatred towards Jews particularly entertaining. Christians are generally considered to be more moderate than Muslims, yet it took the Pope two thousand years to absolve the Jews of the kill of Jesus Christ. Even after the absolution, even after the horrors of the WWII, strong anti-semitism persisted in such places as Poland, Russia and Germany. As an eloquent Russian Orthodox priest said - people tend to forget that Jesus Christ himself, as well as his mother, Virgin Mary, were indeed Jews themselves. The crucifixion of Jesus Christ was the product of the time that Christ lived in. Many forget that the Christian Church itself dealt severely with anyone piquant Christianity. Why would have the Romans and Jews behaved differently two thousand years ago?

We are also shown the battle between Arabs and Israelis, the battle that has monopolized our news broadcasts, and the film makers grasp us to different parts of the globe to gaze answers. Of course, everything boils down to propaganda spewed by an extremist few, who decidedly poison minds and hearts in order to accept domination.

“The Longest Hatred” is an honorable documentary, amazingly composed and objective that should be mandatory viewing for all who wonder how the hatred came about, or even if the hatred is marvelous. One should know that no hatred is ever gracious, as no pleasurable can near out of it. But being that we are human, we are subject to these emotions, and the least we can do is try to understand the roots of these emotions. Highly recommended.

This is a copy of a PBS mini-series, marvelously filmed on region, filled with facts, interviews with “in your face” and “in your gut” scenes. It explains the Jewish/Arab conflict from the very beginning to date and permits the viewer to contemplate the WHY from both sides. It is long for one viewing - but invite friends over, have refreshments, peer the DVD and follow it with HOURS of discussion. Our Bible Behold group spent 8 hours and throughly enjoyed the education and enlightenment it provided to our spy on Israel. Now when we spy the news we know what has preceded the action. I would assume this a must behold for everyone who wants to be informed about the confict in the Approach East!

I recently showed this film to my 7th graders as a portion of our search for of the Jewish people. I wasn’t positive what to ask. To be distinct, Kirsten Dunst (Hannah) is common with teens today, yet I could not guess how a film dealing with Passover Seders, Hebrew traditions, and a war so far away from the life of original teens would go over in my classroom.

To my surprise, the film proved to be the most riveting and attention-holding movie I can ever remove showing. In it are contained kindly acting, eerie (and effective) musical interludes, and a suspense of time-travel that will enjoy teenagers absolutely spellbound!

Dustin Hoffman’s poignant introduction reveals his passion that young people today never forget the holocaust. As long as this film is available to be watched, they won’t.

At times, the suffering of the Jews (made personal by Dunst’s incredible performance) pushes the emotional limit of what I felt my students could consume. Yet, with craft and artistry, we are spared in “The Devils’ Arithmetic” the emotional overload of “Schindler’s List”. This is as it should be. “The Devil’s Arithmetic” is geared to teenagers.

If ever a theme of treasure, sacrifice, and the anxiety of hatred needed portrayal outside the realm of religion, one could not do remarkable better than to expose this film. In the destroy, a young Jewish girl who began only with an interest in tattoos learns the lessons of history, tradition, and above all–life’s priorities. In a nutshell, how lives and a culture can change in an instant is the strength of “The Devil’s Arithmetic”.

Be very sure–this film will build a distinguished impact on young teens! The dropping of the gas pellets at the conclusion of the dream sequence is intense…very intense. Yet how can the Holocaust be portrayed without such reality? With younger teenagers, seize care that background preparation, as well as a reflective time for discussion is provided. This movie packs an emotional punch, and will leave young minds impressed forever.

Originally made for Showtime, this ample video is is based upon the children’s book of the same title. Obtain no mistake, Devil’s Arithmatic is brutal and fair — and definitely not for younger viewers. However, it is an advantageous introduction to the reality of the Holocaust for junior high or middle school students.

Hannah is like most contemporary teenagers — she’d really rather be with friends than participate in her family’s Passover Seder.(The fact that it’s Passover and she’s hanging out watching her friend derive a tattoo doesn’t even strike her as ironic. Hannah is a child of the ’90s.) She grudgingly does go to the Seder, because, well, she doesn’t have a choice.

Instead of actually participating, Hannah gets tipsy. Then, things originate to find lively. Devil’s Arithmatic is a lesson distguised as a time-travel myth. How Hannah ends up in Poland in 1942 isn’t significant. She’s there. And she’s rounded up along with everybody else. Suddenly, all those stories old-fashioned people scream on telling over and over open to perform sense.

The brutality of life in a concentration camp becomes a living breathing thing — not honest a number on her Aunt Eva’s arm. Being a Jew begins to have meaning she never imagined. Hannah finds that what you possess can not only give you strength — it can interpret you and your world. More importantly, it can give you the knowledge to settle. Choice is power. In the the world of the unnamed camp, one can either settle humanity or spiritual death. Hannah chooses humanity.

I really don’t want to bid too noteworthy of the space, because the twists perform Devil’s Arithmatic extremely affecting.

Normally, I do not like fiction about the Holocaust. To me, fictionalising the Shoah is disrepectful; it is like lying. This movie, however, is respectful and in its hold blueprint very haunting. It has its contain world and its fill truths.

I cannot reccommend this video highly enough.

Great wide-angle video camera
I bought this camera as a rear-view camera to aid in docking my 40-foot power boat. I selected it because it is rated for outdoor use and it provides a nearly 180 degree view (170 actually). I have been very impressed. I moored in a tight spot the first week I had the boat, with only 55 feet available to back out my slip and turn 90 degrees to exit. I was able to move within a few feet of the boats behind me with confidence, because the video image quality is excellent in daylight, and the wide-angle shows so much of one’s surroundings. I viewed the video image on a RayMarine E120, which has an 800×600 pixel resolution. The camera provides enough resolution that there is no discernable pixelization on this display. The Speco CVC-638/170 is an excellent product.

Lux rating is the measurement used to indicate how sensitive a camera is to light, and stands for the level of light reflected off a piece of paper by a candle from one meter away.
